Idaho STEM Grant Awarded

Updated: Jul 7, 2023

Idaho 99s Women Pilots received a STEM grant through the generosity of the Idaho STEM Action Center, Idaho STEM EcosySTEM and the Boise Branch of the American Association of University Women - AAUW. The award was announced April 19, 2023.

The grant will go toward scholarships for girls to attend ACE Academy in June 2023, develop an aviation workshop for SheTech for January 2024, and to participate in high school career fairs in early 2024--all to "ignite a spark to explore a career in aviation."

An excerpt from the proposal:

Igniting a Spark to Explore a Career in Aviation

The Idaho 99s Women Pilots are a diverse group of women who love sharing their passion for aviation with the youth of our community--especially girls and students in rural areas. We believe it is important to be role models for girls and youth to spark their consideration of the fascinating and rewarding field of aviation that offers many opportunities to explore.

The programs we join and support are the ACE Academy, SheTech, and career fairs at local high schools. We have had great response to these programs from the students and sponsors.

Women are a small minority in the fields of aviation. The number is slowly growing due to realization that women can and do excel in aviation careers. With the high demand for positions in a broad spectrum of aviation positions, girls have many opportunities to fulfill a STEM-related career.
