What Are The Ninety-Nines And What Do They Do?
THE NINETY-NINES, INC. is an international organization of licensed
women pilots with members throughout the world.
We are a non-profit, charitable membership corporation. The
Ninety-Nines International Headquarters are located in Oklahoma
City, Oklahoma.
The organization was established in November 2, 1929, at Curtiss
Airport, Valley Stream, New York to provide mutual support and
advancement of aviation. Amelia Earhart was elected as first
president and the group was named for the total number of 99
charter members.
Today, Ninety-Nines are made up of professional pilots; pilots who
teach; pilots who fly for pleasure and pilots who are technicians
and mechanics. But first and foremost, the Ninety-Nines consists of
women who love to fly!
Today, the organization promotes world fellowship through flight,
provides networking and scholarship opportunities for women and
aviation education in the community and preserves the unique
history of women in aviation.
